Visual Artist

She is about to complete her MLitt in Fine Art Practice at the Glasgow School of Art, following a BA in Comics and Illustration from the Communication University of China, Nanguang College.

Her practice centres on painting, often employing traditional Chinese pigments and watercolour on silk, layered with mixed media to construct delicate, dreamlike narratives imbued with an undercurrent of unease. Drawing on personal experiences and childhood memories, she integrates surrealist structures and symbolic elements to merge fairy-tale motifs, Rococo sweetness, desserts, and images of girls.

Through this distinctive visual language, Wang investigates the complexities of women’s identity, emotions, aspirations, and sense of belonging. Her work also reflects on social discipline and questions how female agency and subjectivity can be reclaimed in contemporary culture.
